Erwin Rommel and Stefan Fröhlich Consults Over a Map

Generalleutnant Erwin Rommel (left, Kommandierender General Deutsches Afrikakorps) consults with Generalmajor Stefan Fröhlich who, as a Fliegerführer Afrika, led the German air support to the German Afrikakorps during the winter campaign of 1941/42. Rommel often moved his HQ at short notice during an offensive because he believed commanders needed to be close to the front line in order to react to events rapidly. This picture was first published in 1943 in the book "Balkenkreuz Über Wüstensand" (The Balkan Cross over Desert Sand) by Gerhard Stalling Verlag

North African Harbor During the German Drive to Egypt

North African harbor (could be Benghazi or Tripoli) during the German drive to Egypt, 1941. The ship with the liner in the background might be the Italian auxiliary cruiser "Citta Tu Tunisi". It always sailed with at least one of his three sister ships (Viktoria, Esperia or Marco Polo) and distinguishable by his one funnel (not two funnel like three other). The picture was taken by General Erwin Rommel, commander of Afrikakorps

Mechanised Column of 7. Panzer-Division

Shown here is a mechanised column of the 7. Panzer-Division, commanded by Generalmajor Erwin Rommel, on the move during the Blitzkrieg through France in the last days of May 1940. The photo was taken by General Rommel himself. They are not hindered by Allied aircraft because the German air superiority ensures them a "safe trip" (at least from the air) along the way!

Three Messerschmitt Bf 110 in the sky

Three Messerschmitt Bf 110 in the sky. The BF110s were the most used German heavy warplanes during World War II. Development of the Me 210, which was suppose to replace the BF 110 began before the war, but with severe issues in development the BF 110 remained Germany's primary heavy fighter throughout the war
